When I was a kid I wrote a diary nearly every day filling them mostly with what I ate or what I did at school that day. As I entered adulthood this habit ceased and it wasn’t until I got married that I wanted to take up writing again so I could record what married life was like.
While doing my teacher training, like most other things, this took a back seat so I could lesson plan, teach and sleep! Not writing a journal niggled at me as I wanted to be able to look back and remember how it felt to complete my teacher training. But the question remained how to make this manageable? I wouldn’t have the time to sit and write each day how I was feeling.
After reading this book I decided I would write a one sentence journal every night before I went to bed. So far, this year, I have kept this goal because it is realistic. By keeping my journal on my bed side table I see it every night and quickly scribble down how I am feeling or something funny that happened at school.
I worried that after my endless pages of diaries as a child, would one sentence a day really cover everything that I wanted to say? I have to say that after writing one sentence a day since January, one sentence really does say it all. On Sundays I still like to write in more depth in my big journal and this little journal helps to jog my memory of other things that I want to include. And if a few weeks go by I don’t feel guilty because I know a part of each day is written in my one sentence journal.
I already love flicking through it to see how I was feeling and what I thought was important at different stages of year. I wrote this quote into the front of my journal: The days are long but the years are short. This reminds me that although some days seem to drag they will soon pass by and I would like to remember the good and the bad times.
I love this book because there is also space to record all the books I have read over the years I keep this journal. It may seem strange but I think I have read more this year because I have been able to record it. There is also a map in the back so you can record where I travel in the next 5 years as well.
I know others have kept a one sentence journal or similar where they record what they are grateful for or 3 things that make them happy. I have really enjoyed keeping this little book of thoughts as it has helped me stay focused through my PGCE.
I hope that if you want to write a journal this might be a way to do it.

Hello Terri,
It's Linda. I was looking for a way to sign up to your blog so I could keep up with it/avoid planning lessons next year, and I don't know how to do it. I love this idea of a one sentence journal, I must try that as I tend to keep the same one for years and write very sporadically.
Anyway, I hope you are well, and the move goes swimmingly; the majority of my stuff went today and I am so relieved it has gone and arrived at my new house safely.
Linda xx

Hi Linda,
I have tried to add a subscribe button on the left. It is very small but I am still trying to figure out how to make it bigger.
