One of my goals for the year is to create 12 craft projects from items that I already have in the house. This goal is mainly to prove to myself that I am not a collector of all things crafty but that I can prove to Nathan that I do actually use the mass of craft supplies that are taking over our flat.
I had an old t-shirt that I had already put in my box to give away to charity but then I watched a few episodes of Superscrimpers on Channel 4 and thought maybe I can reuse this t-shirt and wear it again.
I really wanted to make a t-shirt with a big heart on it and I happened to have a scrap of red fabric left over from making a skirt a few weeks ago. I also had red thread leftover and my secret ingredient greaseproof paper which has far more uses than just baking.
I cut out my heart using a piece of greaseproof paper which I folded in half to make a symmetrical heart shape. I pinned the heart shape to the t-shirt and then carefully sewed around the edges using a zigzag stitch. My stitching didn’t look that great as I never use this setting on my sewing machine so I sewed around the heart twice just to make sure the heart wouldn’t fray.
I am really happy with how it turned out and the whole thing only took an hour while I was watching T.V. I am definitely going to try other t-shirt revamps that dominate my pinterest boards at the moment but they are just so easy and fabulous! I can’t wait to wear it out; my plan is to wear it to my last knitting club meeting on Thursday before we move.
