Nathan and I have known for a while that moving closer to my work would probably be the most realistic thing for us to do right now. After several journeys to school for meetings and full days of teaching the commute is too much as I have to be at school so early 5am starts have been killing me. Plus the added worry that if my train is delayed on the way to work their are still children waiting in the classroom whereas if Nathan is late for work his desk will still welcome him when he eventually arrives. A simple solution may have been to get a car and just drive to Swindon each day which I don't mind doing but train travel is still the most cost effective option while we save for house.
Reasoning
We only really considered moving when we found out that the rent on our current flat (39A) is going up beyond our budget. After looking this area of Bristol there is nothing that is within our limited price range that just looks nice. I want to live in a place that will fill like home, it doesn't have to be amazing or luxurious but just comfortable.
I am really going to miss living in Bristol as my family and friends are here and it is familiar. While I was at Church on Sunday I kept hoping that we might be able to find somewhere else to live in Bristol so we can stay in the same ward at our Church as this is my only concern about staying. It is a small branch of the church and lots of people are moving away at the same time and I worry that there will not be enough people to take care of the youth that attend. I am also going to miss the friends I have made and how much I have learned from these lovely people. But we need to move.
Upgrading to a house.
Last week I found a small cottage available near the train station which would be perfect and booked a viewing straight away. When Nathan came home from work I told him about how great this house is, and that it is within our budget as well!!!
Nathan takes a very sensible approach and starts making lists of things I will need to check when I view the house to make sure this is the one we want to rent. Me, I like I take every place that I have lived in over the last few years I have decided on by gut feeling.
Seeing our future home.
On Monday morning I went on my own to view the house because Nathan had to go to work. I had 'the list' with me so I felt confident that I could view this place with a level head. I stood outside to listen to the traffic noise, to see if I could hear the trains, I walked around the local area. there is a park at the end of the road and a little museum about the development where the cottage is as it was built in 1846.
10am I finally went inside the house after tramping around in the rain for a few hours, in my excitement I got on a very early train. walking inside was strange because I had gone over the photographs and details so many times I knew exactly what it looked like. I was sold the minute I saw the built in book shelf and walk in wardrobe what more could I need. But I did check most of the things on Nathan's list and luckily there is secondary glazing which I am glad about. Before I was out of the door I had told the estate agent we would like to take it. I payed the holding deposit and have the forms ready to fax back.
Afterwards I had to go straight to school for the rest of the day but I am so happy. We have a little house to move into and we both have jobs we have been so blessed.
Terri that is super exciting! I love that you fell in love with the cottage because of a built in bookcase and walk in wardrobe, a woman after my own heart :)

I felt naughty about it because Nathan still hasn't seen the place and says he trust me. I think he is sold on the fact he can have a BBQ in the garden. I can't wait!!
